Since August of this year, the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) program under Express Entry has consistently issued 1,000 invitations to apply (ITAs) to candidates with Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores of either 533 or 534 points.
Foreign nationals aiming for Canadian permanent residence through the CEC program may be curious about achieving a CRS score at this level. This article presents a series of hypothetical profiles that would have qualified for an ITA in the recent CEC draws.
Example 1: Michael Hassan
Michael, an unmarried engineer who spent most of his life in the UAE, holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from a Dubai university. He worked as a software engineer in the UAE for a year before pursuing a master’s degree in Canada at the University of Toronto.
After completing a two-year program, he obtained a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) valid for three years and accrued two years of Canadian work experience as a cloud engineer, meeting the eligibility criteria for the CEC.
Michael’s advanced English proficiency, scoring a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB 9), and his age of 27 at the time of entering the Express Entry pool contributed to his CRS score:
| CRS scoring factor | Michael’s qualifications | Michael’s score |
| Age | 27 | 110 |
| Education | Master’s degree | 135 |
| Official languages proficiency (English) | CLB 9 | 124 |
| Canadian work experience | 2 years | 53 |
| Total points from human capital factors | 422 | |
| Skill Transferability | ||
| Education + Language ability | Master’s degree + CLB 9 | 50 |
| Education + Canadian work experience | Master’s degree + CLB 9 | 50 |
| Foreign work experience + language proficiency | 1 year foreign work experience + CLB 9 | 25 |
