Understanding the Recent Increase in Canada’s Permanent Residence Processing Fees

Recently, Canada’s permanent residence (PR) processing fees have been raised for all streams and programs, including Express Entry, Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs), and family sponsorship.

If you have a PR application in progress or are planning to submit one soon, here’s what you need to know about the fee changes.

The increase impacts processing fees across all PR categories, affecting principal applicants, spouses/common-law partners, and dependent children.

The Right of Permanent Residence Fee (RPRF), applicable to most PR applications and deferrable upon initial submission, will also see an increase.

Fees have risen by around 4–5% in most categories, with family sponsorship fees experiencing the highest increase at nearly 6%. Meanwhile, fees for dependent children and protected persons have seen a more modest increase of just under 4%.
