Foreign Work Experience for CEC Applicants
Foreign remote work can be considered as international experience but does not replace or enhance Canadian work experience for candidates applying under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
Concurrent Work Experience Recognition
IRCC acknowledges concurrent work experience, where an individual can gain Canadian work experience from a job within Canada while also engaging in remote work for an overseas employer. The remote position is classified solely as foreign work experience, even if both roles overlap.
International students have the opportunity to amass foreign work experience through remote positions with employers based abroad. Similarly, individuals who leave Canada after their work permit expires can still work for a Canadian employer from another country, but this post-expiry experience is considered foreign, not Canadian.
Documentation and Clarity
IRCC emphasizes the importance of clearly outlining how concurrent roles were managed and maintaining comprehensive documentation to prevent processing complications.
