Results of Canada's Express Entry Draw from July 8, 2024

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) have issued additional Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in a new Express Entry draw. Here are the results from the latest Express Entry draw held by IRCC on July 8, 2024.

In today’s draw, IRCC issued 3,200 ITAs in a category-based selection for candidates with French-language proficiency, requiring a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 420.

Note: Since December 18-21, 2023, this marks the first instance that IRCC has conducted four Express Entry draws within seven days.

Express Entry

IRCC’s system for managing economic immigration applications for three programs—the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC)—is known as the Express Entry system.

Since June 2023, the Express Entry system has utilized three different types of draws. The three draw types used by IRCC are:

  • General
  • Program-specific
  • Category-based

Outlined below are the notable differences between these draw types.

General and Program-specific Express Entry Draws

Both of these draw types have been integral parts of IRCC’s Express Entry system since its inception in 2015. They prioritize immigration candidates with the highest CRS scores.

Note: CRS scores are values assigned to eligible Express Entry candidates by IRCC, representing their combined score based on various human capital factors (such as age, work experience, and official language proficiency).

For these two draw types, there are three main steps between deciding to immigrate to Canada and receiving an ITA from IRCC:

  1. Confirm your eligibility: Ensure you qualify for at least one of the Express Entry-managed programs (see the list above).
  2. Create an online profile with IRCC: During this process, you will receive your CRS score.
  3. Wait for IRCC’s next Express Entry draw: At this point, you will find out whether you will receive an ITA.

Note: ITAs are the only way for Express Entry candidates to submit an electronic Application for Permanent Residence (eAPR) to IRCC. Only candidates with a CRS score higher than the cut-off for a particular draw will receive an ITA.

Category-Based Express Entry Draws

In June 2023, IRCC held its first category-based Express Entry draw. These draws are designed to attract Canadian immigration candidates with specific types of “in-demand” work experience and proficiencies. IRCC decided to focus on candidates who fit into the following six target categories, based on an assessment of Canada’s national labour market gaps and demographic needs.

Note: In 2024, IRCC confirmed it would continue using the same six original target categories.

  • Healthcare work experience
  • Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) work experience
  • Trades industry work experience
  • Transport industry work experience
  • Agriculture and Agri-Food industry work experience
  • Strong French language proficiency
