Canada has recently implemented new immigration measures affecting citizenship and passport fees, as well as sponsorship requirements for the super visa. Here’s a breakdown of the changes that came into effect on March 31 and April 1.
1. Increased Canadian Passport Fees
Who is Affected: Individuals applying for a Canadian passport for the first time or renewal.
Starting March 31, 2026, Canadians will face higher passport fees due to inflation and increased production costs. The price for a regular 10-year passport will be $163.50, while a five-year adult passport will cost $122.50.
2. New 30-Day Passport Processing Guarantee
Who is Affected: First-time passport applicants or renewals.
Effective April 1, Canadian citizens can expect their passport applications to be processed within 30 business days or receive a full refund. The initiative aims to streamline the application process and ensure timely delivery of passports.
3. Right of Citizenship Fee Increase
Who is Affected: Individuals applying for Canadian citizenship.
As of March 31, 2026, the right of citizenship fee has been raised to $123, while the adult citizenship grant application fee remains at $530. These adjustments align with government policies to cover administrative costs.
