Ontario’s New System for Interprovincial Job Mobility

Ontario’s Enhanced Job Mobility System

Commencing January 1, 2026, Ontario is set to streamline the process for workers in regulated professions to transition between provinces and commence new employment opportunities. The upcoming system will enable professionals such as engineers, electricians, and architects to initiate work in Ontario just 10 days after submitting their credentials, a significant improvement from the previous lengthy process.

Interprovincial Agreements

Ontario has recently entered into 10 new agreements with various provinces and territories, facilitating a smoother transition for workers across Canada to start working in Ontario promptly. Simultaneously, these agreements will grant Ontario professionals easier entry into job markets in other provinces.

Impact on Regulated Professions

These reforms will impact more than 200 regulated professions and over 300 certifications, encompassing approximately 20% of all Canadian jobs. Regulators will be held accountable for meeting the 10-day timeline, facing penalties for any delays. Professional associations anticipate that this initiative will address labor shortages, expedite critical projects, and uphold public safety standards.
