Ontario Provincial Draws: Latest Updates on Immigration Opportunities

Ontario recently conducted a new round of provincial draws on April 30, extending invitations to 997 candidates in the Greater Toronto Area through its Employer Job Offer streams.

The majority of invitations were extended to foreign workers, with a minimum score requirement of 57, while international student candidates needed a score of 81. These scores are based on Ontario’s Expression of Interest system and should not be compared to Express Entry scores, which are typically higher.

This draw specifically targeted candidates already residing in Canada with a valid job offer, particularly in sectors such as healthcare, technology, construction, and administration. In comparison to a similar draw held in March, a larger number of candidates were invited this time, with reduced score thresholds.

Ontario has been conducting frequent draws in anticipation of upcoming changes to its immigration system, expected to be implemented in May. These changes may introduce new pathways and replace existing streams.

Newfoundland and Labrador Updates

In a separate development, Newfoundland and Labrador issued invitations to 190 candidates on May 1 through its provincial program and the Atlantic Immigration Program.

The majority of invitations were channeled through the provincial nominee program, aligning with the trend observed this year. The province has also ramped up the frequency of draws in 2026 compared to the previous year, with a particular emphasis on candidates holding job offers, especially in healthcare and smaller communities.
