New Opportunity for Health Support Workers in Rural Areas of British Columbia

New Temporary Immigration Initiative for Health Support Workers in Rural Areas

British Columbia has recently launched the Temporary Rural/Remote Health Support Initiative, a program aimed at supporting health workers in rural and remote regions of the province. This initiative is part of the updated BC Provincial Nominee Program Skilled Immigration guide, which was released on May 28, 2026.

Key Details of the Initiative:

  • The initiative targets workers in specific occupations, including security guards, light duty cleaners, janitors, caretakers, and heavy-duty cleaners.
  • Applicants must be direct employees of B.C.’s public health authorities and work in eligible rural or remote locations.
  • Workers employed by private contractors, even within health facilities, are not eligible.
  • Applicants must have a full-time, regular job offer from an eligible health authority and have worked full-time for at least nine consecutive months in the same occupation with the same employer.
  • Successful applicants will not have the option of Express Entry BC and will follow the base BC PNP pathway.
  • This initiative provides a temporary but significant opportunity for eligible health support workers to potentially secure permanent residence in British Columbia.
