Canadian citizens aged 16 years and older can now conveniently renew their passports online as of July 28. The online renewal process offers real-time updates and requires a Canadian residential and mailing address, along with a recent digital passport photo. The passport must be issued within the past 15 years and set to expire within the next six months. Applicants can upload supporting documents digitally, eliminating the need to mail them or visit a Service Canada Centre. The online renewal service aims to provide more options, reduce wait times, and minimize errors that may cause delays. It complements existing in-person and mail-in application methods. Immigration Minister Lena Metlege Diab announced the launch of this service, which targets a 20-business-day processing time. The government anticipates 4.6 million Canadian passport applications this year, with online renewals expected to make up 60% of the total. The service, which underwent testing starting in December 2024, has now lifted the daily cap on renewals. Over 27,000 Canadians had utilized the online renewal by September 30, 2025. The system adheres to government security and privacy standards, ensuring a safe and efficient process for citizens.
