New Express Entry Category for Physicians in Canada

Introducing a New Opportunity for Physicians in Canada

Canada has recently unveiled a new Express Entry category tailored specifically for physicians with recent Canadian work experience. This initiative, announced on December 8, is set to kick off with the first draws anticipated in early 2026. The introduction of this category is expected to positively impact eligible doctors by potentially lowering the CRS cutoffs during draws, thereby enhancing their chances of receiving an invitation.

Qualification Criteria

To be eligible for this category, candidates must demonstrate a minimum of twelve months of continuous Canadian work experience within the past three years in one of the following three occupations: general practitioners and family physicians (NOC 31102), specialists in surgery (NOC 31101), or specialists in clinical and laboratory medicine (NOC 31100).

This diverse group encompasses a wide range of medical professionals, including family doctors, surgeons specializing in various fields, and clinical specialists like dermatologists, pediatricians, psychiatrists, cardiologists, radiologists, among others.

Expanding Opportunities

Physicians who do not meet the specific Canadian work experience criteria may still qualify under the broader healthcare and social services category. This alternative pathway recognizes six months of experience acquired either in Canada or abroad and encompasses a total of thirty-seven different occupations.

Take Action Now

If you are a physician aspiring to work in Canada, it is advisable to update your Express Entry profile promptly to ensure your consideration for the upcoming draws scheduled for 2026.
