Maximizing Express Entry Points: Leveraging Canadian and Foreign Work Experience

The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has recently clarified a crucial aspect of the Express Entry system that allows candidates to claim both Canadian and foreign work experience for the same period. This means individuals working in Canada while also holding remote positions for overseas companies can now utilize both experiences to enhance their Express Entry points.

While this policy has been in place for some time, it is now garnering increased attention as applicants seek ways to boost their scores in the current stringent immigration landscape. The clarification opens up the possibility of higher Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores, benefiting a larger pool of candidates with overlapping work experiences.

However, IRCC emphasizes the importance of honesty and integrity in the application process. Falsifying foreign work history or providing fraudulent documents can lead to severe consequences, including a five-year ban for misrepresentation. The department is actively working on refining the system to prevent misuse, but in the meantime, genuine applicants stand to gain from this favorable rule.
