Canada is officially bilingual, but English is the dominant language in most provinces and job markets. Achieving Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) level 7 in English can strengthen your Express Entry profile, expand your job opportunities, and ease your settlement once in Canada.

Impact on Your CRS Score

Language proficiency is one of the most heavily weighted factors in the Express Entry system. Achieving CLB 7 in all four English skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) can have a significant impact on your score.

Specifically, you can receive:

  • Up to 12 CRS points for basic human capital for mastery of the second official language
  • Up to 50 additional CRS points for additional factors when CLB 7 in English is combined with strong French results

In total, CLB 7 in English can bring you up to 62 CRS points, often enough to move a candidate from below the threshold to receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA).
