Canada Ranks 9th in 2025 Passport Index

The latest global passport ranking places the Canadian passport in the ninth position for 2025, granting visa-free access to 183 destinations worldwide. This ranking compares 198 passports globally based on the number of countries accessible without a visa.

Key Highlights:

  • Singapore leads with access to 193 destinations.
  • Canada outperforms the United States, which has dropped out of the top 10 for the first time in two decades.
  • Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Spain, and Switzerland share the fourth spot with access to 188 destinations.

Despite dropping two spots since January 2025, Canada maintains a strong position, surpassing the United States in passport power.

The Henley Passport Index evaluates 199 passports across 227 destinations, utilizing data from the International Air Transport Authority (IATA). A country is deemed ‘visa-free’ if its entry requirements include visa-free entry, visa on arrival, a visitor’s permit, or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).
