British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program: 2026 Updates and Changes

The Government of British Columbia has recently announced significant changes to the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP) for 2026, outlining priorities, the cancellation of student streams, and the closure of certain immigration pathways.

As part of the program restructuring, British Columbia will now focus on prioritizing healthcare and trades workers, aiming to allocate 35% of all nominations to candidates working outside Greater Vancouver.

These changes were officially communicated through a news release by British Columbia on April 23, 2026.

Launch of Student Streams Cancelled

The long-awaited launch of student streams, intended to replace the International Graduate and International Post-Graduate streams, has been canceled. The province had previously planned to introduce three new streams for Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degrees, but international student graduates are now advised to explore alternative BCPNP pathways.

The initial announcement for the launch of these streams was made in June 2024, with the postponement attributed to the need for BC’s allocation levels to be reinstated.

Removal of Several Provincial Immigration Pathways

British Columbia has officially decided to close its Entry Level and Semi-Skilled Stream, which previously offered a pathway to permanent residence. This closure is part of the province’s strategic shift towards healthcare and trades workers, reflecting a broader realignment of its immigration priorities.
