Changes in Operating Hours at Border Crossings in Alberta, British Columbia, and Manitoba

During the upcoming season, 26 land ports of entry (POEs) to Alberta, British Columbia, and Manitoba will adjust their operating hours. The revised hours will be effective from November 1, 2026, to March 14, 2027, as announced by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) on October 9, 2026.

These modifications aim to synchronize service hours with U.S. POEs bordering the provinces, which undergo seasonal clock changes. While Canadian provinces from Manitoba to British Columbia have transitioned to permanent daylight saving time, the affected 26 POEs will align their hours with the fall and spring shifts in the U.S.

If a POE is closed, travelers can utilize alternative crossings that remain open, according to CBSA. In the U.S., the House of Representatives passed the Sunshine Protection Act in July 2026 to establish permanent daylight saving time nationwide, pending Senate approval.

Ontario announced plans on October 13, 2026, to adopt permanent daylight saving time in Kenora and parts of northwestern Ontario starting November 1, 2026. However, a province-wide shift would necessitate coordination with neighboring jurisdictions like Quebec and New York State.
