The government has implemented new regulations that impact permanent residence applications under the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP).

The immigration department has introduced a 90-day deadline for AIP applicants undergoing employment changes or changes in their employer’s ownership.

If the necessary documents are not submitted within 90 days, the application will be rejected by the officer.

Prior to this update, officers would place applications on hold until the required documents were received.

Under the revised guidelines titled “Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP): Other situations,” officers are now required to issue a procedural fairness letter (PFL) to applicants, outlining the necessary documents and the 90-day deadline.

The updated instructions also outline specific document requirements for scenarios such as changes in employer ownership, role changes within the same employer, and transitioning between designated employers.

Previously, there were no regulations regarding changes in employer ownership.

Furthermore, the updated instructions have removed the need for AIP-specific work permits, which are now addressed in a separate document covering general eligibility.
