Recent estimates released by the government of Canada show an increase in wait times for temporary residence processing. The latest update from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) reveals significant changes in processing times for various types of permits and visas.
Work Permits
Processing times for work permits have increased for U.S. applicants and in-Canada applicants from Nigeria. Super visa processing times have also increased for applicants from the U.S. and the Philippines. However, there have been decreases in processing times for super visa applicants from Pakistan.
The current processing times for work permits are as follows:
- Canada: 109 days
- India: 10 weeks
- Pakistan: 8 weeks
- Nigeria: 10 weeks
- United States: 3 weeks
- Philippines: 7 weeks
Service standard:
- In-Canada submissions (initial and extensions): 120 days
- Outside Canada submissions: 60 days
Study Permits
Study permit processing times have increased for applicants from within Canada and Nigeria. However, there has been no change in processing times for applicants from other countries. The current processing times for study permits are being closely monitored by IRCC to ensure efficient processing.
The government is expected to provide another update on or around September 23, 2026.
