British Columbia Extends Registration Deadline for Temporary Rural/Remote Health Support Initiative

British Columbia has extended the registration deadline for its Temporary Rural/Remote Health Support Initiative (TRHSI) to midnight on October 7, 2026.

The TRHSI offers a pathway to permanent residence (PR) for cleaners and security staff employed by a B.C. health authority. The original deadline of August 31, 2026, has been extended to allow more individuals to apply.

British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program

The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP) aims to nominate up to 250 eligible workers through this time-limited PR pathway. Registration for the TRHSI commenced on June 15, 2026, and has already seen 60 candidates invited to apply for provincial nomination.

About the Initiative

The TRHSI was introduced as part of a significant overhaul to the provincial nominee program in April 2026, focusing on healthcare professionals. Foreign nationals with a full-time job offer from a B.C. health authority in a qualifying rural or remote area are eligible to apply. The occupations covered include janitors, caretakers, cleaners, and security guards.

Qualifying Areas

To qualify, the job must be in a rural or remote area outside specific regional districts. Exceptions apply for certain areas within the Capital Regional District. There are eight public health authorities in British Columbia where eligible workers can be employed.
