British Columbia recently introduced a new temporary stream for health workers, inviting 60 cleaning and security workers employed by a B.C. health authority to apply for provincial nomination.

Candidates needed nine months of work experience in specific occupations in rural or remote areas to qualify for selection.

This selection round had a low cut-off score of 50 points for the year.

The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP) plans to nominate up to 250 health authority cleaners and security staff through this initiative.

Registrations for the ‘Temporary Rural / Remote Health Support initiative’ (TRHSI) opened on June 15 and will be accepted until August 31, 2026.

To be considered for nomination, foreign nationals must have a full-time job in eligible occupations in rural or remote regions.

• Janitors, caretakers, and heavy-duty cleaners (NOC 65312)
• Light-duty cleaners (NOC 65310)
• Security guards and related security service occupations (NOC 64410)

Occupations represented among the invited candidates in the first TRHSI draw were not disclosed by British Columbia.

Workers need nine months of full-time employment with the same employer before registering with the BCPNP.

Health authority workers must have a valid job offer at registration and application time, continuing full-time work throughout the process.

Health workers in specific regional districts are not eligible under this initiative, including Central Okanagan, Metro Vancouver, and Capital Regional Districts.
