Nova Scotia’s Initiative to Connect Express Entry Candidates with Employers

Nova Scotia has initiated a program to link Express Entry candidates with employers in sectors facing labor shortages by sending out Notices of Interest (NOIs).

Currently, the program focuses on two sectors: construction and healthcare.

Nova Scotia introduced this program by adding a “Critical Vacancies” section to its “Live in Nova Scotia” webpage.

Eligibility for the Initiative

Nova Scotia is utilizing the Express Entry system to identify skilled workers for local employers. Candidates need an active Express Entry profile to receive a NOI, without the necessity of Canadian or Nova Scotia-specific work experience.

While specific healthcare occupations are not listed, the construction trades sector targets six occupations:

  • Contractors and supervisors, other construction trades, installers, repairers, and servicers
  • Contractors and supervisors, mechanic trades
  • Structural metal and platework fabricators and fitters
  • Welders and related machine operators
  • Carpenters
  • Concrete Finishers

A NOI is not an invitation to apply for provincial nomination under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) or an endorsement under the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP). It is a means for Nova Scotia to connect foreign workers with local employers.

Receiving a job offer through this program may lead to federal or provincial immigration pathways, potentially resulting in an Invitation to Apply (ITA) through the Express Entry account.

Next Steps After Receiving a Notice of Interest

Recipients of a NOI will be required to provide details about their work experience, education, and qualifications by submitting a form accessible on the Critical Vacancies webpage.
