Nova Scotia Nominee Program Introduces Validity Period for Candidate Profiles

The Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) has recently announced significant changes to the management of Expression of Interest (EOI) profiles. Effective May 1, 2026, candidate profiles submitted will have a validity period of 12 months from the submission date, after which they will expire.

This update marks a shift from the previous system where profiles could remain in the candidate pool indefinitely. Candidates whose profiles expire will need to submit a new EOI to be considered for provincial nomination.

Transition measures have been put in place for existing profiles to ensure a smooth shift to the new validity framework. Depending on when an NSNP candidate submitted their EOI, different measures apply:

Transition Measures for Existing Profiles

Candidates who submitted an EOI prior to May 1, 2024, will have their profiles closed on May 1, 2026, requiring them to submit a new EOI to remain eligible for consideration.

EOIs submitted between May 1, 2024 – April 30, 2026

Profiles submitted during this period will remain valid until April 30, 2027, unless the candidate is selected for provincial nomination before that date. After April 30, 2027, profiles will expire if not selected, necessitating the creation of a new profile for continued consideration.

Rationale for the Change

This change in the NSNP reflects a broader trend towards streamlining and enhancing the nomination process, ensuring that candidates actively maintain their eligibility for provincial nomination.
