Quebec’s Study Permit Fund Requirements to Triple in 2026

Quebec’s Proof of Funds Requirements for Study Permits Set to Triple

Starting January 1, 2026, Quebec’s proof of funds requirements for study permit applications are set to more than triple for some students.

These increases apply to both new international students applying for their first study permit and current international students seeking to extend their study permit validity.

Single international students under 18 years old will see the fund requirements for their basic needs increase to more than triple the current required amount, while those above 18 will see an increase of over $9,000.

Changes in Fund Requirements

  • One person under 18: $7,756 (until Dec 31, 2025) to $24,617 (as of Jan 1, 2026)
  • One person 18 or over: $15,508 to $24,617
  • Two people 18 or over: $22,745 to $34,814
  • Two people 18 or over and one person under 18: $25,479 to $42,638
  • Two people 18 or over and two people under 18: $27,499 to $49,234

Applicants must demonstrate financial capacity to cover living expenses, tuition costs, and transportation fees to be eligible for a study permit.

Quebec, under its special immigration agreement with Canada’s federal government, can set its own financial requirements for temporary residents, including workers and students.

With this impending increase, Quebec’s proof of fund requirement will exceed fund requirements for the rest of Canada.
