Ontario has introduced a new pathway to permanent residence through the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) known as the Ontario Workforce Priority Stream (OWPS).

Effective August 4, 2026, eligible foreign nationals can now be considered for provincial nomination under this program.

The OWPS offers three distinct pathways: one for higher-skilled workers, one for lower-skilled workers, and one for self-employed physicians registered to practice in Ontario.

To be considered for nomination, eligible candidates must create an Expression of Interest (EOI) in Ontario’s e-Filing Portal, linked to a qualifying job offer from an eligible Ontario employer.

Self-employed physicians can initiate the process by submitting a webform to the OINP.

Candidates are selected based on a points-based scoring system published by the province on July 20, 2026.

Upon receiving an invitation from the OINP, candidates have a limited time to respond with a complete application.

Job offer candidates must ensure their employer applies for approval of the employment position within 14 days of receiving the invitation.

Once nominated, candidates will receive a provincial support letter to apply for permanent residence with the federal government.
