Immigration will raise Canada's population by 21 million.
Statistics Canada predicts that by 2073, Canada’s population could reach 63 million, primarily driven by immigration. Estimates suggest the population could range between 47.1 and 87.2 million.
Although the population is aging, with those 65 and older possibly making up 32.3% by 2073, immigration will fuel growth. Challenges include low fertility rates and decreasing life expectancy, with the fertility rate at a record low of 1.33 births per woman.
Immigration is crucial for sustaining labor force growth and demographic balance, which are essential for Canada’s economy and quality of life. Additionally, by their mid-twenties, immigrants often earn more than natural-born Canadians.
